Frequently asked questions
Here you can find some common questions, and their answers
If you can't find your question here about Spellic.com
-Don't hesitate to
contact us1 Does it cost anything to use Spellic.com?
We often get the question "Is there any charge?".
- No! we don't charge you for using Spellic.com
Most people who use this site are young people, and we don't think that you should pay anything to learn a language.
We get our income from advertisers that pay us for being allowed to show their advertisements here at Spellic.com.
"Are there any charges after a while?
- There is no charge now, and we don't plan to charge you anything in the future.
2 Can you only test yourself in English and Swedish?
- No that's not the way it is.
You can have exercises in any language.
Furthermore we have an extended keyboard available with special characters for German, Russian, Greek, Spanish and other languages.
This means that you can enter foreign characters from an ordinary standard keyboard.
3 Who created this site and who is responsible?
The one that came up with the idea, and then realized it is me,
Erik.
It started when going to the "Gymnasium" and when I saw other sites created by former pupils at the school. I thought this was a great idea and that I could make a similar site myself, but better.
So I went home and started coding ;)
4 Why can't I log in?
There can be many reasons. The most common reason, is that you don't write the same user name or password as when the user name was registered.
If you register with the name "Erik", you can't log in as "erik". Capital letters is relevant. The same applies to the password.
For practical reasons you should avoid user names with a mix of capital and small letters. Because it is easy to forget the exact name.
For example "AUsErNamE" is much harder to remember than "ausername" or "aUserName", but of course you can use any name you want.
5 How many exercises can be created by one user?
At the moment the limit is theoretically about 4 000 000 000 exercises.
That many exercises requires a lot of work!, so in a way you can say that there is no practical limit.
6 How many words / questions is it possible to enter for one exercise?
As many as you want to! (same answer as possible number of exercises).
7 Can you register multiple user names for one user?
Yes you can, there is no explicit rule against it.
But there is no real need. You can have an almost unlimited amount of exercises for one user, and you can sort them into different files so that they are easy to find.
Do as you want, but nothing gets better by having two user names and two passwords to remember.
8 Can multiple persons use the same user name?
"I wonder if you can have group of users that uses the same password and log-in?"
- Yes, that's possible.
You can activate this functionality by going to "My settings" in the menu
On that page there is s link to "Guest Settings". Here you do the changes needed to activate the guest functionality.
The guest functionality means that you can select another password to give to your group.
A person logging in with this "guest password" (which must not be the same as your ordinary password) will be your guest and CAN NOT CHANGE ANYTHING, neither your exercises nor your password.
This is very useful for a teacher who can create a normal user name, create exercises, and let the pupils in the classes use them, without having to create exercises of their own, and without the need for every pupil to have their own user name and password.
"What happens if more than one pupil tries to log in at the same time?"
- Nothing special happens, everything works as normal.
More than one person can be logged in from the same IP address (i.e. from the same computer room in the school), using the same user name, and using the same exercise, at the same time.
9 Are all exercises visible in "All exercises", and can be used by everybody?
This is the same question as "can anybody use my exercises?
- No, you have to actively make the exercise available for your friends or everybody.
When you create an exercise, it is by default your private exercise.
Read more about how to make your exercises available for others in the next answer.
10 How do I share my exercises with other people?
One alternative is to use the "group login functionality" described above on this page.
You also have the possibility to make your exercises available for all users or just your friends
This you do by going to "My exercises", then selecting "Edit exercise" for the exercise you want to share.
Then you click on the "Exercise settings" link.
Here you can select who can user your exercise under the heading "Who can use this exercise?"
What your friends are, you can read about in the next question.
11 What is "Friends"?
A friend is another user here at Spellic.com.
To become someone's friend, both has to agree about it. The first step is that a user asks another user to become friends, and that user can then agree and answer yes.
You ask somebody to become your friend, by finding that user on the "All users" pages.
Two users who are friends can share exercises, they are shown on each others "contact list", and can easily send messages to each other. All your current friends can be found on your own user page (that can be found in the "All users" pages) or by clicking on "My friends".
