article a text or piece of writing on any subject

caption line under a photograph which explains what the picture is about

columnist writer who gathers facts and writes opinions

critic a person who writes articles, stating opinion, about art, music etc

desk a department of a newspaper [eg: the sports desk]

edit to check, modify and generally prepare written material for publication

editor 1) a person who edits 2) the head of a newspaper or newspaper department

editorial an article written by the editor stating his opinion

exclusive rights rights or permission for one paper to publish a story that no other paper can print

front page the first page of a paper, usually carrying the most important story

headline the title at the top of an article

journalist a person employed to write articles for a newspaper

lead first paragraph of a story

layout the position of stories, advertisements, photos and graphics on a page

logo type on front page which gives name of newspaper

media all the means of mass communication (papers, TV, radio etc)

obit/obituary a story of a person's death

opinion what a person thinks about a particular subject
